I will give an overview of the main classes of dark matter models developed nowadays in elementary particle physics. The "standard" thermal dark matter production mechanism in the early Universe will be presented, along with presently researched methods of modifying or totally abandoning this framework. Consequences for dark matter particle properties and direct detection methods, related to the early Universe production mechanism, will be discussed.

The arrival of TeV-energy photons from distant galaxies is expected to be affected by their QED interaction with intergalactic radiation fields through electron-positron pair production.
In theories where high-energy photons violate Lorentz symmetry (such as some theories of quantum gravity), the kinematics of the process γ+γ→e+e- is altered and the cross-section suppressed.
