Where do merging binary black holes come from?
2024.01.25 15:48 - Katarzyna KuźniarLVK has already detected nearly hundred of mergers not counting the current O4 run. This allows to investigate the properties of the detected population. I will review what we know of the detections, present the possible models of formation of these objects, and compare the models with observations.

THEMIS: a holistic view of dust and its evolution
2023.11.17 11:54 - Katarzyna KuźniarThe Heterogeneous dust Evolution Model for Interstellar Solids (THEMIS) aims to model interstellar dust and its evolution as a function of density and the local radiation field. In this seminar, I will try to show how we bring together laboratory measurements and sky observations to allow a global approach to the complex problem of dust modelling.

Reshaping Galaxy Zoo for the Deep Learning Era
2023.11.13 10:39 - Katarzyna KuźniarFor the last 15 years, Galaxy Zoo has recruited online volunteers to classify the morphology of millions of galaxies. But Galaxy Zoo is changing. In this talk, I introduce the models we now use to predict how volunteers would describe a galaxy, and consider what these models mean for astronomers.
