My experience as an intervenor in the 2018 Public Hearing to relicense Pickering NGS

On August 28, 2017, Pickering Nuclear Generating Station applied to the Canadian regulator to renew its 5-year licence that was due to expire on August 31, 2018. It requested a 10-year licence for continued operation until December 31, 2024, at which time it would shut down and begin decommissioning. On September 29, 2017, the regulator issued a Notice of Public Hearing and Participant Funding, inviting the public to review the documents and participate by providing topic-specific interventions. This lecture describes Dr. Cuttler’s experience as an intervenor in this hearing and his presentation in support of license renewal and on-going plant operation.
