Research on hot plasma and perspectives of thermonuclear power
2016.01.15 13:03 - adminThe main objective of current research on hot plasma (beside pure scientific goals) is to learn how to practically control the D-D and D-T nuclear fusion reactions currently regarded as the reactions on which future thermonuclear power reactors will probably be based. Majority of the seminar time will be devoted to the ITER reactor project currently under accomplishment. The developers face a number of issues related to selection of constructional materials for the main reactor chamber, and to construction of chamber internal walls, radiation shield, superconducting magnets, plasma heating system, tritium recovery system, measuring instruments. Other to-be-presented topics include: (i) the most important results so-far obtained in research on hot plasmas, including magnetic plasma confinement techniques and intense laser pulses/high-current Z-Pinch/Plasma-Focus type electric discharges capable to produce dense and hot plasma; (ii) recently developing new research avenues including MagLIF experiments, Alpha experimental set-up, attempts to utilize the p+11B nuclear reaction; (iii) current road map to master thermonuclear power including the DEMO facility, next generation tokamaks, and EUROfusion programme objectives.
The seminar will be held in Science & Technology Park building conference room in Świerk. NCBJ bus leaves to Świerk at 10.15 am from entrance gate to the Hoża 69 premises in Warsaw.
