Generation IV International Forum – what we do, what we achieved in TRISO fuel development
2021.10.07 13:46 - Katarzyna Kuźniar20 years have passed since Generation IV International Forum has been founded in 2001 (July 16) as a co-operative international endeavour that was set up to carry out the research and development needed to establish the feasibility and performance capabilities of the next generation nuclear energy systems. The program, organisational structure and main achievements of GIF will be presented in the first part of the seminar. Then the focus of the presentation shifts towards activities of the Very High Temperature Reactor system-Fuel & Fuel Cycle Project. The results of the US Advanced Gas Reactor (AGR) TRISO fuel program will be presented, in particular, the results of irradiation experiments AGR-1-7. The prospects of using TRISO based fuel in other reactor designs will be shortly outlined. Finally, lessons learnt for the polish HTGR development program will be assessed.
