The National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) is one of the bigest research institutes in Poland. Wide research activity takes place at NCBJ, especially basic research in nuclear physics and related fields, reactor research and development of nuclear fuel, safety of nuclear installations and many others.

The National Centre for Nuclear Research opens the competition for the position of

Technical and Research Specialist  – Physicist/Chemist

in Mixed Radiation Dosimetry Team

Workplace: Otwock - Świerk (Poland) - in the outskirts of Warsaw with daily transport services provided

Key responsibilities: 

  • Development of new dosimetry methods and systems for boron-neutron capture therapy (BNCT) based on active methods of radiation detection (e.g. ionometry, calorimetry) or passive detection methods: TLD, OSL, EPR or chemical methods (colorimetry).
  • Development of the experiments and dosimetry methods for reactor and accelerator based BNCT sources, analysis of measurement results
  • Participation in workgroup meetings, trainings and scientific conferences 
  • Publishing the results in scientific journals

Requirements:

  • Completed university degree in the field of medical physics, nuclear physics or nuclear chemistry; technical profile: physics, chemistry, mechatronics, electronics, mechanics, a Ph.D. degree would be an asset
  • At least 3 years of experience in the field consistent with the profile of the Institute's activity
  • Documented research and technical achievements 
  • For medical physicists: knowledge of ionizing radiation detection methods based on analog and digital equipment as well as knowledge of dosimetry methods and mixed radiation detectors, experience with microdosimetry methods will be appreciated
  • For a chemist position: experience with passive dosimetry driven with retrospective dosimetry methods 
  • Ability to analyse data with high-level programming language (e.g. Python, R, ROOT)
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written English allowing for easy communication
  • Linguistic skills necessary to prepare scientific reports and publications

It will be welcome:

  • Experience in laboratory work
  • Additional language French or German,
  • Experience with Monte Carlo simulation codes: MCNP, FLUKA, Geant4, EGSnrc.
