REVaMP - to use metals efficiently

On June 21st and 22nd REVaMP (Retrofitting Equipment for Efficient Use Of VAriable Feedstock In Metal Making Processes) Project Menagement Meeting was held at the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Otwock, Poland.
The main objective of the REVaMP project is to develop, adapt and apply novel retrofitting technologies to cope with the increasing variability and to ensure an efficient use of the feedstock in terms of materials and energy. This will be exemplarily demonstrated within three different use cases from the metal making industry: electric and oxygen steelmaking, aluminium refining and lead recycling.
The Radiation Detectors and Plasma Diagnostics Division of NCBJ (TJ3) as a leader of Work Package 3 is responsible for the development, adaptation and application of novel sensors, based on neutron activation analysis, for characterisation of metal scrap regarding chemical composition.
Due to the European Covid restrictions, the meeting was only the second (after the Kick-off meeting in January 2020) occasion for the personal meeting of a whole REVaMP consortium, consisting of 16 industrial and scientific partners from Poland, Germany and Spain. During the meeting, the progress of work in each of the tasks was presented and the actions planned for the next six months were discussed. In addition, NCBJ organized visits in Radiation Detectors and Plasma Diagnostics Division (DTJ-TJ3) laboratories, showing the REVaMP dedicated experimental setup with neutron generator, the prototype of one of the sensors, as well as presenting the general overview of TJ3 scientific activity.
The REVaMP project is implemented under the EU program Horizon-2020.
