The National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) is one of the bigest research institutes in Poland. Wide research activity takes place at NCBJ, especially basic research in nuclear physics and related fields, reactor research and development of nuclear fuel, safety of nuclear installations and many others.

Currently, we are looking for a person for a position in the Materials Research Lab (LBM)

Technologist / material engineer

Work location:  Otwock, Poland (Suburb of Warsaw, efficient and free daily bus transport service provided). 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Research on engineering materials, including metallographic analyses, sampling and materials preparation for testing, chemical composition analysis, destructive and non-destructive NDT testing;
  • Work using modern testing and measuring equipment, including microscopes, OES spectrometer, hardness testers, defectoscope and videoboroscope, equipment for samples preparation etc.;
  • Work in the accredited area of the Lab - participation in accredited research and PT/ILC testing; Active preparation of test results documentation for audits and participation in PCA audits;
  • Preparation of test stands and supervision of control and measuring equipment; Ensuring high quality of test results under the requirements of the scope of accreditation;
  • Updating the Laboratory management system documentation, legal and normative scope;
  • Preparation of management system procedures related to activities in the laboratory accredited area;
  • Cooperation with other scientific groups of the Laboratory and NCBJ;

Requirements:

  • Higher education Degree (MSc. Eng. / Eng.) from the Field of Engineering and Technical Sciences oriented to the Disciplines of Materials Engineering, Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering);
  • Fundamental knowledge of Materials Engineering, Mechanics and Strength of Materials, Materials Testing Methods and Measurement Techniques in Engineering Research Experience in research and laboratory work;
  • Analytical skills - conducting tests with various measurement techniques and analysis of the results and measurement data;
  • Knowledge of sampling methods and sample preparation for materials testing; Knowledge of spoken and written English;
  • Preparation of reports on test results in Polish and English;
  • Regularity and good organization of work;
  • Ability to carry out tests independently and initiative in action, commitment, and creativity;
  • Communicativeness, ability to work in a team;
  • Openness to new tasks.

Additional assets:

  • Experience working in accredited testing laboratories;
  • Knowledge of standards, the scope of the management system and testing and system standards related to activities in the accredited laboratory area;
  • Knowledge of other materials testing techniques, e.g. XRD, SEM/EDS/EBSD, AFM or Raman spectroscopy;
  • Experience in working with students (teaching skills), e.g. training other staff in structural and non-destructive testing and teaching practical classes with students and engineers from industrial units;
  • Experience in using CAD/CAM software, e.g. to prepare technical documentation of samples and to use precision machines for cutting and preparation of materials, e.g. EDM machining centre;
  • Published scientific work related to materials research;
  • Ability to prepare scientific publications and grant proposals in the field of ongoing research;
