Summary of The Fourth BNCT Workshop in Swierk

The Fourth Workshop of BNCT (Boron Neutron Capture Therapy) was held on 10th october 2017 in the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Swierk. The main subject of the workshop was: ”BNCT  - perspective of scientific collaboration”.
The workshop was attended by scientists from all over Poland, i. a.: Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy PAS in Wroclaw, Institute of Medical Biology PAS in Lodz, Rzeszów University of technology, Oncology Center in Bydgoszcz, Institute of Nuclear Physics PAS  in Cracow, Gdansk University of Technology, AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow and Jagiellonian University. The participants were divided into two thematic groups. The one adresses dosimetry issues and the second adresses  biology, medicin and chemistry.
The workshop program also included a trip to The Maria Reactor. The participants were able to listen to a lecture on the principles of operation and use of the reactor and take a look at its structural elements. During the discussion the participants were sharing their thoughts and discussing research plans in the perspective of further cooperation. Currently, the most challenging for scientists is to invite of selective boron carriers and boron distribution system monitoring for BNCT.
The results of the workshop was a short summary and to set a field of further scientific cooperation on BNCT.
Another workshop will take place in Lodz in February/March 2018.
